At a time when families are being forcibly torn apart, Finding Pá: A Story of Loss, Love, and Redemption shares the story of a son and father finding their way back to one another. Directed and written by Emmy-nominated cinematographer, award-winning director and writer Enrique Lebrón, Finding Pá is inspired by true, real-life events. The film follows Miguel, a Puerto Rican man who is filled with resentment and anger towards his father for abandoning him as a child. When Miguel’s estranged father suddenly comes back into his life, seeking forgiveness and connection as age and illness have tempered his heart. With his father’s unexpected re-entry into his life, Miguel must deal with his childhood trauma and neglect, and ultimately decide if they can ever truly make amends.

Finding Pá really came from one of the most personal chapters of my life, my relationship with my father. We were estranged for many years and there was a lot left unsaid between us. There were wounds that never fully healed and a deep desire to understand each other before time ran out. Making this film became my way of processing all of that. The pain, the attempts at reconnection and the love that still exists, even when a family is broken. In telling this story, I wanted to honor not just my own experience, but also the people out there who share similar journeys. Fathers and sons trying, in their own ways, to find their way back to each other,” Lebrón shares with Cafeteria. Finding Pá navigates the emotional journey of healing old wounds, breaking generational cycles and holding onto hope for a better future. The cathartic film also pays homage to Puerto Rican culture, bringing to life the vibrant music, traditions and most importantly the strength and resilience of Puerto Rican people.

Finding Pá will make its Hartford debut at Trinity College’s CineStudio (300 Summit Street) on Saturday, October 25 at 4:30pm. Attendance is free, but arriving early is encouraged as parking is limited. There will also be an opportunity to connect with the cast and crew, including special guest Jon Cruz as well as a giveaway for the audience.
