On Friday, September 26, at the height of the event, I got the opportunity to sit down with one of the founding members of Future Royalty Entertainment - Dr!p.
Future Royalty, a collective of artists and tastemakers, wanted to create a space for their members and loved ones to not only showcase their creative talents but also celebrate one another. Made up of everything from actors and directors to models and designers, the group begs and then answers their own thesis, “WHAT ELSE¿“.
What else can we build, what else can we explore, what else can we offer? The group members have created a sort of synergy amongst each other, collaborating on each creative pursuit and allowing individual members to push the boundaries of their capabilities. There’s no shortage of mutual support amongst the members; they spoke candidly of how important it is to highlight the talents of their female counterparts, aware of how quickly women’s talents get brushed over in the creative industry. La Fuga allowed the team to push them to the forefront and highlight their skill in front of larger crowds than they’d previously encountered.
It all started with one word - “Fuga” (開けて), which means “to open” in Japanese.
After bouncing around names for the series, they eventually landed on a title for the event, “La Fuga”, which translates to “the escape” in Spanish. The initial event hosted a lineup of the collective's members who played alongside another of the big players in the scene - On&On Radio.

To Dr!p, Cita Park originally seemed out of reach; his cofounder, Gian, however, spoke the collaboration into existence. He shot an email over to the event coordinators at Cita, and after a few meetings with Eugene and Jamaal, La Fuga was set to be reborn in the space.
The team expressed their appreciation for Cita Park and often attended the events held in the space. Built on a desire to connect and build within the community they came together in - they felt it was imperative to involve local businesses. Some heavy hitters vended at La Fuga, including the tattoo shop 24-hour ink, Gems By Taylor (a local jewelry boutique), and New Haven-born clothing brand “Birks Collection”.
With a stacked lineup of Future Royalty Members, free entry, and a determination to blow this opportunity out of the water, the team showed up and showed out. They brought in over 150 new guests to the space and sold out all of Cita’s inventory during their second event, which, as a result, cemented their Summer residency.
Although this was the closing event at Cita for the year, this won’t be the last time you see La Fuga on a flyer.
With a few more things set to roll out as the year comes to an end and the collective's first anniversary in December, this won’t be the last time you see Future Royalty on a flyer, either.

Dr!p teased an album rollout and an upcoming documentary by member Spike Lee on their steady rise to the top - but we’ll be front row for those, so we’ll talk more on that later.
The party series allowed to collective to build momentum - now, they’re ready to take off.
